WE BIKE NYC stuff is open “to women, female-identifying, and gender non-conforming riders only, unless otherwise noted.”
Here’s their calendar of events:
Ride to Gotham Girls Roller Derby Bout
Saturday, April 9
4:30pm meetup, 5pm wheels down – Astor Row Cafe, 404 Lenox Ave, New York, NY 10037
Join WE Bike NYC in a short ride on our way to support the awesome women of Gotham Girls Roller Derby in their Bronx Gridlock Vs Queens of Pain bout! WE will start in Harlem, roll down to Central Park, cut over to West End and continue on to John Jay. The ride will end there, but you are welcome to buy a ticket and join us inside for derby good times.
The ride is free but tickets for the roller derby bout can be bought here! It is strongly recommended that you get your ticket in advance as they are known to sell out.
This ride is for women, female-identifying and gender nonconforming people only, but everyone else can meet us at the derby bout!
Kids’ Bike Forum
Sunday, April 10
10:00am – 1:00pm – 185 Ellery Street, Charlie’s Place, Brooklyn, NY 11206
Biking with your kids in NYC is amazing, and WE Bike NYC’s Mom’s on Wheels along with KidicalMassNYC wants to help make it happen! Are you an avid cyclist, but your kids not so much? Are your kids ready to bike on the street? On their own bike? Are you ready to let them? Are your kids ready to go longer distances? Are your kids ready to race? How do you get started biking in the city with your kids? Where did you get THAT bike? Come discuss these important issues and more at Kids’ Bike Forum 2016!
The event is free, but you will need to bring a kids bike helmet (and a kid!) for the Kids Bike Skills Class. Pre-registration for the class is available here.
5 Boro Bike Tour Training Ride
Saturday, April 16
10:00am Meet-up, 10:30am wheels down – USS Maine Monument, at the Columbus Circle entrance to Central Park, Manhattan
WE’re still in training for May’s 5 Boro Bike Tour (less than a month to go!). Whether you are riding the 5 Boro or just wanting to get your cycling legs back after the winter – join us for a few laps around Central Park on Saturday morning. WE will meet at the USS Maine Monument, at the Columbus Circle entrance to the Park, and then ride into the park for a few laps. Exact number of laps to be determined on the day, depending on the interest of the group. However you are welcome to leave early after one lap or stay longer after the official ride has ended. Bring snacks, water, and as always, your helmet.
Monday, April 18
7:00 pm – 50 W. 23rd Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY, 10010
Join us as WE discuss our favorite thing: bikes. This workshop will cover topics such as types of bikes, what kind of bike to get and where to get one, how to lock your bike, and riding in traffic. If you are new to biking, are ready to buy a new bike, or just want a refresher as bike season begins, this workshop is for you!
April Happy Hour
Thursday, April 21
7:00pm – 9:00pm, The Spotted Owl Tavern, 211 Avenue A, New York, NY, 10009
Come to our monthly all-gender happy hour to hang out, build community, and talk bikes! Have any biking goals for the year, or ideas for fun summertime bike adventures? Come share them with us here!
Ride Leader Training
Sunday, April 24
1:00pm- 4:00pm – Nomad Cycle, 36-59 37th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101
WE can’t do what WE do without the support and dedication of our volunteers.
In this training session, WE go over what it means to be a volunteer for WE Bike, the various roles volunteers can take, how WE plan rides and workshops, day of procedures, post-event procedures, and emergency procedures. WE also practice our fix-a-flat skills, how to ride lead, and any other skills that may be useful.
To participate, you ideally should have gone on a ride with us before so you can understand what our expectations of ride leaders/volunteers are. If you have not been on a ride with us before but are still interested, please email email@example.com for more information.
